Project Art Works is internationally recognised for its work with neurodivergent artists but everything we do begins locally. Through Art Breaks, we support neurodivergent children and young people to access free, child-led creative workshops where they experience art making to build connection, communication, and joy! Families get a break and meet others who share similar experiences.

Art Breaks is oversubscribed, vital and free to attend. Hastings is one of the most deprived local authority areas in England, and many of the children they work with face long waits for appropriate education and support. These sessions provide time, space and agency – without pressure or fixed outcomes.

Artist, Christopher Tite began his journey through Art Breaks and just opened his first solo show – a significant milestone in his artistic career.

Together we’re aiming to fund 7 Art Breaks Days, helping around 80 children take part this year. Even a small contribution can help unlock a creative workshop place for a child where they have freedom to explore artmaking, in a space designed around their needs.

It was an utter joy & breath of fresh air to find a space that allowed our son with little speech to explore & try lots of different activities, get messy & have loads of fun without judgement or fear of mess. J often takes some time to adjust to new Spaces but he quickly regulated & was trusting with the adult supporting him & opened up/relaxed completely in the space. – Parent 2024

For example, with the match funding, a donation of just £36 could help support a place!

“There aren’t words to describe what art breaks does for our family- the children absolutely love the opportunity to be given time and space to create something truly theirs with the thought and support they need. It’s very difficult for them to get this at home due to the combination of everyone’s needs.” Parent, 2025
