Invitation: THE SPACE

Published by on

Join us in St Leonards on Wednesday 10th April for the closing event of Gemma‘s artwork installed at The SPACE : A Zone of Art and Nature – ZAN.

The event will be very informal and in the outside space from 4pm – 6pm. Gathering on site to see the work in person and enjoy it’s vibrancy as a community, Project Art Works will join members of THE SPACE to celebrate the collaboration.

St Johns Rd, St Leonards-on Sea, TN37 6HP

Find the location on Google Maps.

A large abstract painting with a bright yellow background. reds, blues, oranges and pinks are dotted, spattered, and shipped with long drips marks running off the page at the bottom.

Please note that there is no shelter at THE SPACE as it is an outside venue. The nearest toilets are at The Royal at the end of Kings Road. Parking on the street around the space is limited but free.

THE SPACE utilises a billboard on land next to St Leonards Warrior Square train station with artists projects developed through collaboration with the artists managing the project.

Gemma uses joyful physical gesture when painting applying bright colours to surfaces with large, heavy
brushes. Movements may be in response to music or interactions with other artists. Gemma produces works on paper and canvases simultaneously and vocalises her responses with key phrases throughout the day.

Gemma sits cross legged on the floor and uses a large brush to add paint to paper.

Gemma’s work has been exhibited at Ignition, Hastings Contemporary, (2021), Coastal Currents (2022), Residential, Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art (2023)

Artist Billboard & (ZAN) are realised through the support of The Hastings and St Leonards Foreshore Charitable Trust and Hastings Voluntary Action Community Matters Small Sparks grant.

The work is has been available to see from January 27 – April 13 2024.
